Since it was announced in March 2015 that Steven Spielberg was joining the VR bandwagon as an advisor for Virtual Reality Company (VRC) there has been excitement on what projects he might be involved in.
Spielberg has confirmed that he will direct the film Ready Player One – A movie all about gaming and adventure in a virtual reality world. So it can be seen he is interested in themes set in the innovative format.
Virtual Reality Company (VRC) co-founder Robert Stromberg has let slip that the company is working with Steven Spielberg on a film project that is “solely for VR.”
Spielberg has already confirmed that he will direct the film Ready Player One. A movie all about gaming in a virtual reality world. So it can be seen he is interested in the innovative format.
VRC created the VR companion piece for the Martian that got rave reviews, so an informed guess could be Spielberg is working with VRC for the Ready Player One VR tie-in, but who knows at the moment.
With the likes of Spielberg getting involved in VR, this could spur the early adoption of VR in the mainstream tech world even quicker than expected.
With Jurassic Park, The Martian and maybe Ready Player One having VR tie-ins, the virtual reality movie business could have a very exciting future. However with Ready Player One having a release date in 2017 we are going to have to wait to see what the legendary storyteller can do in the new format. For one I can’t wait!
